Twisty-Turny Gotham!

Twisty-Turny Gotham!

*SPOILERS* Gotham getting back into the swing of itself is a much welcome change after last week’s episode (see my review if you’re curious what I thought). This episode had exactly what I’ve been wanting, that fast paced ‘edge of your seat’ feel that the first episode of this season had. We start the show with Gordon and Bullock interrogating street goons in a manner that isn’t like Gordon. I’m used to him not taking the “slimy cop” way and trying to be better man than that, but alas we finding him smacking thugs and throwing them out of windows to get answers and to send a message. Bullock does not mess around getting back into the force does he? He’s only been back for what, two days or so, and he’s already throwing people around! On the flip side, high-strung Gordon is interesting. This probably attributes to the change of heart with the way things are done, but it’s something none of us are really used to! I definitely understand that he feels guilty about what happened. He blames himself for Essen’s death because he wasn’t there to stop it, especially since he should have been. This is why he’s beating himself up so badly. I hate that Gordon is continuing to push Lee away. She’s such a strong, good, influence on him and she’s truly the rock holding him down (in a good way of course!)

Jerome, Jerome, Jerome, wow. Cameron Monaghan is really nailing this role. During the scene with his dad he’s wearing green and purple, it honestly looks like it’s the exact shade of the Joker’s! He really emulates Heath Ledger here- and I know that he is his own actor and he’s so damn good, but it’s hard to watch him and not see the influence of Ledger’s Joker. The warning from his father is EXACTLY what Jerome wanted to hear. He wants to be feared and to leave a legacy of destruction!

The slight strain on Alfred and Bruce’s relationship is ever so small but it’s there. I’m sure they’re still not all that happy with each other over the terms that they agreed to, but they have to get over it and agree. Case in point Bruce going to the gala that Lee puts on. He and Alfred exchange a cute conversation with Lee until Bruce spots Selina. (By the way, what a gentleman offering to get Lee something to drink! Alfred’s raising him well!) Selina gives Bruce a little morality check, when he tells her stealing from these people is bad she simply says “Didn’t I steal something for you once?” that shut Bruce right up! This is one of the things I love about this show, they’re writing Bruce so well and we’re watching his transformation every episode. He’s slowly learning that the line between right and wrong is very thin and how hard it is to justify certain actions. Alfred in the meantime is adorably falling in love with Lee. It’s understandable though, she’s smart, gorgeous, and strong- it’s exactly what Alfred wants! The writers also throw in a fun little Easter-Egg when Jerome says “Some people say Bruce has a split personality.” after performing the magic trick on him, so good! I’m curious what Jerome’s hatred of Bruce is. They never really explain that, unless I’m spacing something from the first season. (Let me know if I am!)
I like the questions the Mayor is asking Galavan, because it’s all true. Where the hell did he come from? If his forefathers built this city then where was he, where has he been, and why did he leave? He and his sister are going to be such big players and we’ve only seen the tip of the insanity iceberg, I’m excited to see more. As far as his acting ability, I KNOW Gordon is smarter than that, how in the world did he not see through Galavan’s declaration? I mean, he turns TO THE TV and states his name! Plus, isn’t it weird that Jerome didn’t just kill him on the spot either time? One would think that if Jerome didn’t have any ties to him he would have just shot him on the spot to make an example of him! The water gun gag is hilarious and I really can’t say that I would not have burst out laughing about it if I were in the crowd.

I’m also really curious how Barbara and Gordon end up back together (if they do of course). She’s so much better in this episode, I’m glad the last episode was a fluke! I like new evil crazy Barbara! Selina shows Bruce a way out and Bruce decides to go back and save Alfred, duh, and I found it sad when Bruce told her that he missed her. They have so much history already, it’s only going to get better! Selina getting out leads to Gordon finding the way in and then proceeds to kick major ass with Alfred. That was a frigging awesome scene too!
HOLY SHITTAKKE, WHAT THE HELL, THEY KILLED JEROME OFF?! I DID NOT see that coming, and I was literally sitting there with my mouth agape for a good five minutes because of that. I’m actually really sad too, he’s such a strong character and Cameron is such a good addition to the cast, bummer! Also, damn, DAMN, the way they had the blood fall on his mouth and that creepy smile he died with, I shuddered at it!
Here’s my predictable Robin Lord Taylor gushing paragraph! Perfection, just so much perfection. The five minutes he was on screen he shows so much expression and the rage is so captivating. You can feel how mad he is, it’s so good. Ah, the hints and the umbrella joke Bullock makes! It’s so great and you can see where Cobblepot gets the umbrella idea. OH one thing that really concerned me was to see Bullock drinking again. He downed that whole glass of wine with one gulp! It’s not okay!

Alfred’s awkwardness with Lee at the end was really cute and I love his banter with Bruce. It’s good to see that being in mortal danger brought them closer together and that they’re slowly getting back to their normal selves. After the whole thing ends Galavan exchanges pleasantries with Gordon, Lee, and Alfred and goes about his merry way.  I’m still surprised Gordon doesn’t find something wrong with him.  Or maybe he does and they just haven’t stated that yet! I hope we see.  I’m interested in seeing what’s going to happen between he and Tabitha, especially since Barbara is playing both of them.  What’s her plan and what’s her end goal? Is she trying to pit them against each other so she ultimately can take over?  It does seem like something she’s capable of!  Last but definitely not least, that creepy scene at the end with all of the dudes laughing…Oh man, what the hell has been unleashed on Gotham?!  I am looking forward to finding out!
