The Revenants, The Stone Witch, Doc, Wynonna, Waverly and Dolls have all been craving various things. Some of those cravings are more easily satisfied than others. Some of those cravings shouldn’t be satisfied.

If you haven’t seen ‘Constant Cravings’ yet, you can watch it (with your Syfy provider) &/or the Official Recap will catch you up. This post is FULL of spoilers!

Now we know more about what those cravings are:

We already knew that Bobo and the other Revenants crave escape from Purgatory, to eat “everyone and everything”.

Mama Tate has been craving the taste of human flesh. Yet, she won’t eat Dolls, because he’s “spoiled”. (More on that in a minute.)

The Stone Witch (CC Stone) craves the resurrection of her sons. With all her abilities, she can’t locate and retrieve their bones herself. That must be a torment for her.

I think most of us would agree that these three lots of cravings shouldn’t be satisfied! More acceptable cravings include:

Doc still craves revenge on Constance Clootic (CC Stone), but now he’s also craving Wynonna.

Wynonna has been craving love, especially from Waverly. Waverly finally pays her a compliment this episode: “what a beautiful soul you are”.

Waverly has been craving respect, wanting to be important. Now she’s “married to a skull”, making her a very important part of “all things Purgatory”: ‘Keeper of the Bones’. And a target.

Dolls is craving whatever drug he gets from The Black Badge lab. Without it he’s becoming quite ill. With it, he’s becoming reptilian? (Or is it feline?) Was Wynonna’s comment to the Blacksmith foreshadowing a future revelation, perhaps linked to the earlier séance, and the final scene?

He’s not used to acting…human.”

Clearly there is a lot more to the story!

The Black Badge has cut off Dolls’ supply because of something he did. How nasty must the Black Badge bosses be, to keep their demon-hunter in agony, not supplying a drug that they obviously know he needs? Because that’s who’s “upstairs”, isn’t it? That guy couldn’t have been referring to “heaven” as “upstairs”. The Black Badge are the good guys. Right?

Perhaps, it’s simply as Dolls told Wynonna: HQ want a Revenant alive, a “result” as “quid pro quo for the resources they provide”. It seems that Dolls is compelled to work for The Black Badge by more than heroism. I’m looking forward to finding out more about that!

It also looks like Dolls appreciates more than Wynonna’s ability with Peacemaker. Both Doc and Dolls must want Wynonna, to have that face-off! I wonder if either of them love her, or if they just need her. A pity, since working together they could achieve so much more, in terms of defeating the demons, the Witch and whatever else is going to rear its ugly head in Purgatory.

Dolls seems quite tuned in to Wynonna these days: he commented when they were training that she’d limbered up, but that it wasn’t from Yoga. He was probably referring to her more relaxed (but not peaceful) attitude. On the other hand, Dolls is strung out, and quite sick, from whatever is happening inside him.

Doc noticed Dolls’ discomfort, and correctly recognised withdrawal. Wouldn’t it be nice if they were actually friends, and could trust each other? At least Doc has decided to distance himself from the Revenants and commit to Wynonna and Dolls as allies instead. He finally took a stand with Bobo, which is remarkably brave: He could have just disappeared without announcing it.

We’re learning more about the supernatural powers harnessed in Purgatory.

The Stone Witch seems to have a number of fetishes and supernatural abilities, besides those evoked by spells and incantations. We’ve seen her use some kind of force to paralyse Doc and Bobo.

The Revenants, apart from healing from gunshots (but things don’t grow back), they have superspeed and superstrength, along with a menacing growl and glowing red eyes.

Bobo has something like telekinesis: he got Peacemaker from Wynonna at the Police Station. Although it burned his hand, he maintained control. This episode he activated the drill and moved the Revenant’s arm. Has he learned these from The Stone Witch, or are they a manifestation of being a demon who has completed the Hell/Purgatory/Earp cycle a number of times?

‘The Blacksmith’ has some kind of spiritual ability, maybe like a Seer or Witchdoctor. She also has a sense of humour, and a mean streak: she let Wynonna balance on that landmine, thinking it was live, while they carried out their introductions.

She knew that Wynonna was an Earp, and she recognised that Dolls’ “soul is being torn”, without being told anything. (I’m hoping he goes back later for that Salve. Pride and trust issues can be overcome.)

The Blacksmith also recognised Curtis McReady (spelling?) from a skull in a box under Waverly’s arm. For some reason, the skull “never told [her]” who it came from, when she “bonded it” with Curtis, but this time, it did. That seems to make a difference to the Blacksmith and Waverly’s safety, and The Stone Witch being able to find and target them. Presumably salt keeps the witch at bay, like it does snails and slugs? I’m pretty sure the Stone Witch would have the power to burn a building down from outside it, though.

Waverly “being one” with the son of the Stone Witch really seems like a bad idea! Is it supposed to stop the Witch finding the skull? From what the Blacksmith said, it’s going to lead her to it! Is it supposed to stop him being resurrected, because his soul is bound to Waverly’s? It’s all pretty scary stuff! Let’s hope next episode shows us what it all means, as well as Waverly’s escape clause!

 

Something that confused me was Wynonna shooting Hetty. Wynonna cuffing her was presumably about keeping a Revenant alive for ‘The Black Badge HQ’. But then, she shot her anyway! Dolls was not bothered about Mama Olive’s death (which was necessary), but very angry about Herman’s death, so it was surprising that he didn’t complain about Hetty. There was the opportunity for Dolls to turn in a “result” and get “un-cut-off”. Maybe Dolls was just grateful to have survived the day, so he didn’t yell at Wynonna again.

We often see reckless Wynonna, mouthy Wynonna and immature Wynonna. Yet, amongst all the hilarity and action, we sometimes see ‘Wise Wynonna’:

The trouble with glorious times…they don’t tend to stick. But friends do.”

Reminds me of Forrest Gump: “I’m not a smart man, but I know what love is.”

However, this episode Wynonna didn’t have the best line, Doc did:

 Only one death scared me, and it didn’t take.”

It’s also a reminder of Doll’s comment:

I know what you are…The enemy.”

After this episode it’s harder to tell who is human and who isn’t, who’s “good” and who’s “bad”. Whatever they are, they’ve all got cravings.
