Tristar Gives Life To Narnia Franchise With “The Silver Chair” Movie
It has been a long time since anyone has gotten news on another Narnia film. The three films done so far: 2005โsย The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, 2008โsย Prince Caspianย and 2010โsย The Voyage of the Dawn Treaderย have collectively done over $1.6 billion worldwide since their releases. While that isn’t much in a time frame that spans 11 years (when we get films that hit $1 billion in a few months), that is far from a failure.
Many fans of the books were not thrilled with the later installments. Many speculated that the best move would be to redo the series starting with The Sliver Chair, and according to Deadline, that is just what they are going to do. The news of the film has been out for awhile but this most recent commentsย from Mark Gordon confirm the project has all the distribution and financing firms in place. The Sony TriStar Pictures company will be joining C.S. Lewis Company and Entertainment One to make the new film.ย Life Of Piย andย Finding Neverlandย writer David Magee isย writing the script.
The novel is set primarily in the world of Narnia, decades afterย The Voyage of the Dawn Treaderย there but less than a year later in England.ย King Caspian X is now an old man, but his son and only heir, Prince Rilian, is missing.ย Aslan the lionย sends two children from England to Narnia on a mission to resolve the mystery: Eustace Scrubb, fromย The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and his class-mate, Jill Pole. In the frame story, Eustace and Jill are students at a horribleย boarding school, Experiment House.
So given this film has none of the originalย Pevensie children in it, Sony and the team will have the ability to attempt a reboot. If The Silver Chair is successful in its attempt, they could have the option to reboot the rest of the series, hoping for a better result the second time around. Walden Media’s license/contract expired back in 2011.
Are you excited that The Sliver Chair is being made? Would you be interested in a full reboot of the other 3 films?
