Where True Friendships Begin
Throughout the history of Gotham we’ve seen a few shared moments between Edward Nygma and Oswald Cobblepot. The newest episode “New Day Rising” brought us our crowning moment for their friendship! As we know, Cobblepot’s running for Mayor of Gotham. With his new position he was able to break Nygma out of Arkham. It was interesting to try to understand what Cobblepot’s motives were. I know that Nygma helped him out when he was almost dead and had no where else to go, but it seems like Cobblepot always has an ulterior motive.
Nygma stood out a lot in this episode. He kept a watchful eye on Butch and tried to rat him out for bribery. Little did Nygma know that Butch was trying to backstab Penguin, and stopping the bribery probably messed up Butch’s plans. I’m curious as to what Butch’s intentions were, what is he planning? He struggled with lack of power his whole career. First off, he was Fish’s right hand man, then he was Penguin’s, then Tabitha’s, and now Penguin’s again! Butch surely became tired of not being number one.
A Brand New Day
The end of the episode brings a triumphant Penguin to terms with how much Gotham loves him. Nygma’s riddle “I can’t be bought, but I can be stolen with one glance, I’m worthless to one but priceless to two” taught Penguin something. Penguin won the election because Gotham loves him. Without Nygma, he never would have realized it. Penguin announced that his campaign manager is now Nygma, and together the dynamic duo are going to rule Gotham. What this means for Gotham is something I truly can’t wait to find out!
