Loki

Loki: A Full Series Review

Where Did the Time Go?

I can’t believe another Disney+ Marvel series has come and gone. Loki was definitely my most highly anticipated one out of the three and boy did it deliver! I have so much to say about this series and I cannot wait for what’s to come.

*SPOILER ALERT*

There was so much intricacy to this show and much like WandaVision each week kept you questioning everything. (Sorry I did not ever finish Falcon and Winter Soldier so I can’t compare.) Even the season finale of Loki left me with an empty feeling in my mind and heart! I wanted to have the sweet satisfaction of knowing a new episode was only seven days away, but that is not the case this time around.

So Many Loki

There was never a dull moment in this season. Each week we were given new situations of peril, heartache, and pretty frequently a new exciting take on Loki. Let’s start with Sylvie. What a badass! I really enjoyed her character arc and man what a perfect ending for her. She repeatedly told Loki that she was not like the rest of them, yet she completely pulled a Loki move at the end. Betraying his love for her and using him to her full advantage was such a Loki move. Her character through the show was mysterious and interesting. It was a great match for Loki!

Sylvie was never treated as Loki’s equal. She was truly the better version of him and he knew it from the moment they met. The love story between them might have felt weird at first, but honestly it is the only thing that makes sense. Loki falling in love with himself is absolutely believable. He’s narcissistic and self centered, so when you put a beautiful female version of himself in front of him of course he’d go for it. I am sad it ended in her tossing him to the side to get what she wanted, but what else could anyone have expected?!

Other Worlds

We saw some really exciting other worlds in this series. I loved the TVA and I loved each of the characters in it. Casey definitely moved to the top of my favorite side characters of all time, even though he was a very fleeting character in the series. Miss Minutes was excellent and eerie from the start. I love Tara Strong and her voice over work is always fantastic. Of course, Owen Wilson was a strong addition to the cast and he played Mobius perfectly. I loved the relationship he had with Loki and how much he really wanted to believe that Loki could turn out to be good. I also really want to know what his life in the normal timeline is like. Did he have his jet ski?

The Void was a strange and creepy place, but Loki getting pruned gave us the best Loki variants! Classic Loki, Kid Loki, and of course Alligator Loki were all variants that shone regardless of how little screen time they got. Richard E Grant portrays Classic Loki and became an instant favorite. I’m not sure if we will, but I really hope we get another season based off of his timeline and what he goes through. If nothing else I hope we just get an entire Loki Variant show! Each week could be based on a different Loki and their shenanigans. That would be amazing. We also saw President Loki and as I am in the middle of reading Vote Loki that made me really excited!

Universe Shattering

The reveal of “He Who Remains” also known as Kang the Conquerer (yus) gives me an insane amount of excitement for Ant Man and The Wasp and also Dr. Strange! I remember reading an article way back before WandaVision even came out where Kevin Feige said that Loki was the only show that had a true effect on the Marvel Universe and oh boy was he right. Sylvie straight up broke the Universe by killing Kang and I really think this is going to have long lasting effects on the stories to come. I really would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during those meetings. I’m sure so much debate and thought went into this series and how much it was going to change everything.

That ending was absolutely absurd too. Loki running to Mobius and B-15 to tell them what happened but them having absolutely no clue who he was was just mind blowing! There was so much that we have yet to learn about this entire universe and the second season is going to toss us into some deep holes to try to figure it all out. I can’t wait. We might be seeing Loki again in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania especially since Kang the Conquerer is already confirmed in the cast list or we might see him in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (my bet’s on that one since Tom Hiddleston is listed in the cast). Either way, whatever Marvel has next in store for him is going to be a blast.

For All Time

Overall, this series is my favorite thing Marvel has ever done. It was clever and witty, but also full of heart. Kate Herron is a master at directing and she gave us a lot of fantastic moments. Tom Hiddleston was just perfect in every sense of the word. I have always been a major Loki fan and I am so happy for him to finally be able to hold his own. This show did him so much justice and he earned his spot in the Marvel Universe as not just a villain, but almost a hero. He might have stepped on some toes, but his actions at the end to try to save the Universe really makes him stand out. I am interested to see what’s going to happen when he and Sylvie reunite, because things will probably get pretty ugly!
