Salvage Marines | Go or No Go Review and Cast Interview!

Today Salvage Marines released for FREE on Popcornflix and this show is definitely something that any science fiction fan should check out. Starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Sleepy Hollow) and Peter Shinkoda (Daredevil, Falling Skies) the series follows Sam Hyst (Van Dien) as he joins the R.E.A.P.E.Rs, or Salvage Marines. In this world, there is debt that follows families from generation to generation, and in order to make his wife and child’s life easier, Hyst makes the decision to join the Salvage Marines to get out of debt. The series touches on a lot of really deep threads because of the reality of the world they’re in.

Who Should Watch Salvage Marines?

Salvage Marines does an amazing job of paying homage to classic science fiction space shows and fans of Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, and Starship Troopers (of course) should check this out. The cast is stellar and the plot is compelling and very enjoyable. The opening title screen is really cool too, it feels very comic-book-esque and really sets the tone for the show.

Humor is something that shines through in this show too, especially with Marr (Shane Graham)’s character. He’s sarcastic and snarky with the rest of his squad and it’s really fun banter to watch. Jada (Jennifer Wenger) is a badass and mixes her serious nature with some flirty banter as well. There is a good balance of seriousness and playfulness which makes the show not as depressing as something that tackles these topics could be.

A Stellar Cast

All of the actors in this show really bring their A-game. Van Dien and Shinkoda play perfectly off of each other. Their relationship on screen is just so natural and enjoyable to watch. I do love the fact that Sam convinces Ben to join the Marines and basically sacrifice his life and Ben barely hesitates to say yes. The best part of this whole show is the heart. Let’s not forget about Linara Washington, she plays Sura Hyst and though she’s only on the screen a few times in the first episode, she steals the show! I can’t wait to see more.

The cast and crew put so much love and passion into this show and you can really feel it. Plus, all of the fighting and running and stunts you see are done mostly by the cast themselves! They really did all of those training montages and wore 40 pounds of armor while doing so. Amazing!

Go or No Go?

ABSOLUTELY GO! This is a no-brainer guys. I definitely think that you should give Salvage Marines a shot. I guarantee that you’re going to get sucked into the first episode and want to watch the entire series because that’s exactly what happened to me! All six episodes are available to watch on Popcornflix now and it is something worth checking out. The show makes you think, laugh, and can make you a little mad at the situation all of these characters are in. You’re rooting for them all and want them to come out on top.

Biggest takeaway? Go watch Salvage Marines!
