“Bleeding Love” A Story Of Addiction, Pain, and Redemption
When I was given the opportunity to review the film “Bleeding Love” starring Ewan and Clara McGregor I knew I couldn’t say no. I knew very little about the film, but the preview alone intrigued me, and the fact it was a father-daughter story with a father-daughter cast was something I thought was very sweet. Here is the preview for the film:
Synopsis
The synopsis of the film does a really good job of setting up what everyone should expect, but also does a great job of not spoiling too much. It reads
“In hopes of reconnecting with his estranged child, a father (Golden Globeยฎ-Winner Ewan McGregor) embarks on an impromptu road trip with his now-adult daughter (Clara McGregor) after she has a near-fatal drug overdose. He is planning to take her to rehab – though she doesnโt know that. En route to their destination of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and encountering an eccentric array of characters along the way, the two are forced to confront the issues of their past, trip proving less about the road that theyโre on, and more about the troubled one from their past.”

My Thoughts On Bleeding Love
I’m going to try REALLY hard not to spoil anything, but if anything comes up that is a spoiler I will warn you. I think that everyone should see this movie. It’s a heartful, yet sorrowful, story of a father and daughter trying their best to reconnect. Well, a father trying his best to reconnect. “Daughter” (Clara McGregor) is an addict who nearly died just a few hours before. “Father” (Ewan McGregor) is desperately trying to get through to her. As an addict himself, he understands exactly what she’s going through. Thanks to his past transgressions, Clara has a difficult time listening to him.
The story is truly about trying to overcome self-doubt and fear, and putting aside the past to try to make a better future. The acting is top-tier, which is to be expected of course. Not to mention the father-daughter dynamic is quite beautifully done. It’s hard to not spoil things! Essentially, the road trip is a big factor on how the two view each other. The pair come across many different characters, all who play a huge part in putting them into tough situations. One of my favorite characters is the old man who helps “Father” fix the truck, he’s a nice bit of comedic relief in a heavy story.

Overall
Bleeding Love has so much depth and the writing is well done. There are a lot of situations that I found frustrating, but of course that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be. You’re meant to feel all of the emotions these two go through, and during the whole movie, I found myself being equally frustrated, nervous, sad, and overjoyed. The words “feel good” don’t describe this movie, because it isn’t a sappy story with happy overtones. “Heartfelt” is a much better description.
Overall, as I mentioned above, this is a great film. The movie had me hooked and at no point did I look at the clock. Clara McGregor’s acting is stunning, you feel every emotion that she did and her ability to portray the struggles of addiction is very impressive. Ewan McGregor is also stunning. His concern and care shows through, yet he is able to be stern and upset all at the same time. If you’re looking for a film that has a great story, great acting, and a good message look no further than Bleeding Love!
