Review: Fire Force Season 3 Returns with Fire

By: Robert Prentice

Fire Force is back with its 3rd and final season to conclude the manga after 5 years since season 2 aired. Shinra and the team are about to uncover the worldโ€™s greatest secret. But just as the other Special Fire Force Companies unite to face the looming disaster, Obi is captured by the Tokyo Imperial Army, and Company 8 is branded as traitors. Hunted by the Empire, they must fight alone to rescue Obi and stop the Evangelistโ€”all while a new assassin and the corrupt Captain Burns block their path.

The trailer for the final season revealed something HUGE that manga readers were also stunned and excited to learn. More on that, and potential spoilers after the trailer below.

Review

It has been 5 years since season 2 of Fire Force, and in the anime world, long waits are nothing new. However, now that the Fire Force manga has concluded (in 2022), the third and final season is here to close out the story. Here is a quick refresher for season 2:

In Fire Force Season 2, Company 8 intensifies its investigation into the Evangelist and the mysteries surrounding spontaneous human combustion. As Shinra and his teammates grow stronger through intense training and new alliances, they uncover disturbing truths about the Adolla Burst and its devastating power. The season dives deeper into the origins of the Infernals and the dark pasts of key characters, including Captain Burns and Joker. Epic battles unfold against powerful enemies like the White-Clad and the enigmatic Pillars, culminating in high-stakes confrontations that set the stage for a larger conflict between salvation and destruction.

The Fire Force Season 3 trailer dropped a bombshell for anime-only viewers: a major connection to another universe created by Atsushi ลŒkuboโ€”Soul Eater. While manga readers have long been aware of this twist, the revelation may come as a shock to others. The iconic, grinning moon shown in the trailer is an unmistakable nod, confirming that Fire Force serves as a prequel to the world of Soul Eater. The final season promises to bridge the two series, a bold narrative move thatโ€™s sure to spark excitement and debate among fans.

We had the chance to preview the first few episodes of Fire Forceโ€™s final season, and it wastes no time launching into chaos. Just as Company 8 prepares to unite the remaining fire brigades against the White-Clad, the Tokyo Imperial Army makes a bold moveโ€”arresting Captain Obi. Loyalties are tested, alliances fracture and reform, and shadowy figures maneuver behind the scenes, setting up a tense power struggle with world-altering implications.

Given the five-year gap between seasons, a Season 2 rewatch is highly recommended. Season 3 dives headfirst into backstory and secrets weโ€™ve been waiting to uncover, all while escalating the action from the jump. And with the growing connection to Soul Eater, a rewatch of that series might just be essential, too.

About Fire Force

In the year 198 of the Solar Era in Tokyo, special fire brigades called the Fire Force fight increasing incidents of spontaneous human combustion where human beings are turned into living infernos called โ€œInfernalsโ€. Shinra Kusakabe is a third-generation pyrokinetic youth who gained the nickname โ€œDevilโ€™s Footprintsโ€ for his ability to ignite his feet at will. He joins the Special Fire Force Company 8, which features other flames users who have the task of both working to extinguish any Infernals they encounter and investigate companies 1 through 7.
