The public have always had a fascination with dark and twisted stories and Hannibal’s story has long been an obsession since Silence of the Lambs. The series by NBC Hannibal seeks to give us the story before the books and films on Hannibal. However, many of the characters will be familiar and appeared in the books and films. This series focuses on Jack Crawfords group of CSI members and a special agent Will Graham. Jack partners Will up with a psychiatrist who has a unique insight, like Will, into the minds of a killer. That psychiatrist named is Dr. Lector.
Lector is played by the talented Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale). Mikkelsen plays a calm, collected Lector who not only acts superior around others but revels in the fact that his crimes go unanswered as he becomes a part of the FBI’s team. Lector takes a special interest in Will Graham who, like Lector, has the ability to see into a killers mind and think like the killer. Will’s ability goes beyond just thinking like the killer, he can actually recreate the entire crime in his head from the POV of the killer.
Hannibal is a twisted dark thriller that mixes everything you love about CSI with the horror you felt watching Silence of the Lambs. Its not for the faint of heart, but as you watch you cannot stop watching. You continue to wonder when he might kill or when he might be found out. The best thing about the show is that at every meal we see Hannibal, we all sit back wondering, is that pork….free range?
Not only will you see familiar names from the books but the famous line “The world is a better place with you in it” will be said, making fans of the Hannibal story, very happy.
