Anime Fall 2017 Must Watch List

The anime fall 2017 season is proving to be full of must watch anime. Of course has there really been a bad season lately? The Funimation and Crunchyroll partnership is at its best right now. Many of our top pick shows will be simulcasting either dubbed or subbed versions on the two networks. For those who don’t remember, Crunchyroll and Funimation partnered up to share licenses. In this agreement CR would focus on subs and Funi would focus on dubs. The advantage to fans is that most of Funimation’s titles would show up on Crunchyroll subbed. And CR would then have Funimation release their titles on home video and dub them.

Not all titles have been shared, due to various license agreements. Also some titles will be dubbed by CR directly but released on home video by Funimation. But lets get on with the list. What shows have made our must watch list?

Food Wars! The Third Plate (Crunchyroll)

After his training in the actual restaurant, Soma finally sees the top of Totsuki academy, the Totsuki Elite Ten at the Momiji Meet and Greet and challenges them.

The venue that was decided for Soma and the Elite Ten to battle was the Totsuki school festival, the Moon Festival. What will Soma make happen at this monster event that brings in 500,000 ever year. Meanwhile, someone’s plan is coming together in the shadows. Soma’s new battle was about to begin!

Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

A breach between Earth and the netherworld has opened up over the city of New York, trapping New Yorkers and creatures from other dimensions in an impenetrable bubble.

One of our favorite new series returns for season 2 starting in October. There has been no announcement yet whether Funimation will pickup the license for season 2, but it seems very likely. However, given how close we are to the premiere, Funimation will likely be a few weeks behind on the broadcast.

UPDATE: Funimation has confirmed that Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond will join their Fall SimulDub lineup!

The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Funimation & Crunchyroll)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money – not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. She moves on with her new and peaceful life, slowly but surely, until one day, when she finds a Japanese picture book among the many sent to her from London by Angelica. It is a fateful book that discovered her in her younger years, when she was still troubled and lonely. This piece is a prequel to Chise’s encounter with the Thorn Sorcerer.

Black Clover (Funimation and Crunchyroll)

Asta and Yuno are orphans who were raised together from birth in a church on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. In a world where everyone has Magical Power, Asta was born without any. Unlike him, Yuno was born as a prodigy with immense magical power and the talent to control it. The story follows the two foster brothers as they compete to see which one will become the Wizard King, Clover Kingdom’s strongest Magic Knight. But How can Asta become a magic knight without magic? But when Asta gains an unknown “Anti-magic” that can destroy all magic, their journey begins; Asta with his rare anti-magic and physical strength, and Yuno with his wind magic and magical prowess.

Funimation announced thursday that they will also be dubbing:

  • Kino’s Journey -the Beautiful World- the Animated Series
  • JUNI TAISEN: ZODIAC WAR
  • URAHARA
  • Recovery of an MMO Junkie
