Black Butler is back in 2024, after a long hiatus since the last anime season, and coming off the film that covered the Atlantic arc of the series, the newest season of the anime is about to return covering the Public School Arc. Unlike the second season of the anime, the creators are back on track with canon material covering the original stories in the source manga. During Aniplex Online Fest last night, 4 key character visuals were revealed for the Prefects from the school. Check it out below.
According to the synopsis read on the live stream, Ciel has been asked to investigate the disappearance of several students at Weston College. 2 of these students are relatives of Queen Victoria and as her guard dog, Ciel cannot refuse this request. Just how well will Ciel manage at college? I doubt he will be the most needy student there but you can rest assured that his Butler won’t be far behind him.
Directing the new season will be Kenjiro Okada at Cloverworks. Hiro Yuki Yoshino will be writing the series with character designs by Yumi Shimizu. Crunchyroll has partnered with Aniplex in the past on many projects, and Black Butler will be making its return to the platform in 2024 with subbed and dubbed streaming in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS as it airs.
About Black Butler
Black Butler’s manga began serialization in 2006 and as of 2023 has 33 volumes published to date. Its longevity is due to its strong fan following which included several anime seasons, OVAs, and films over the years. Most of season 1 of the anime was canon with the final story line of 1 and all of season 2 being anime original. After that, further films and seasons were arc specific including season 3 “Book of Circus”, two OVA films covering “Book of Murder”, and the film “Book of the Atlantic” covering that arc in the series. Now the latest season Public School Arc will continue the story.
Published by Yen Press, they describe the series as follows:
Just a stone’s throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria’s faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master’s wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London’s underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human . . .
