If you grew up a fan of science fiction in general, and are of a certain age, Planet of the Apes was some of the peak storytelling of its time in the late 60s and early 70s. Some of the biggest names in the genre were apart of these films and to this day they stand the test of time. Many attempts to reboot or refresh the franchise have occurred but none have been as successful or gotten as far as this most recent franchise with 20th Century.
Now, coming full circle after running chronologically in order release-wise, opposite that of the original films, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes brings us to what the original film timeline-wise was. I am excited to see where they take it. This adds another major film franchise to the summer blockbuster line up, set for May 2024. below is the official synopsis for the film.
Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
