By: Robert Prentice

Netflix’s latest attempt at a live-action adaption of an animated series is landing this Thursday and its Avatar The Last Airbender. This isn’t the first time the series has gotten the live-action treatment. The film which was not well received, left a bad taste in viewers mouth and has left many unsure what to expect from the new series. So lets dive into what you need to know, and how to prepare for the upcoming series launch.

*Minor spoilers ahead as we reveal episode names and length

Our full review of the first season will drop Thursday.

Episode Information

The first season will consist of 8 total episodes. The average length of the episodes is over 45 min in length. In comparison, the average of the animated series was 20 min per episode. Here is the official list of lengths and titles:

  1. Aang (62min)
  2. Warriors (48m)

What should I rewatch before the series drops?

This one is easy. Rewatch book 1 of the animated series, which is 20 x 20min episodes. The first season of the Netflix show will cover the entire first book. If you catch up on the first season of the animated series you should be in good shape to kick off the live-action series.

How involved were the original creators?

This one is a little tougher to answer. The original creators were involved with the series for the first 2 years but eventually left the production. The specific reasons varied from speculation to reading between the lines on interviews done but ultimately they did leave before the series was finished and there were comments citing creative differences. However, all told and from our review of the first season (dropping on Thursday), the series kept very aligned with the source material. Fans should be excited when they see it.

When does it officially drop?

All 8 episodes will drop on Netflix at 12:01 am PST on Thursday Feb 22nd.
