The Associated Press reported today that the cast and producers of Revolution screened the Season 2 premier episode today at the United Nations in New York, to highlight concerns for the 1 of every 5 people in the world who live without electricity.
Stars Billy Burke, Giancarlo Esposito, and Tracy Spiridakos, and creator/showrunner Eric Kripke sat down with officials from the UN to bring notice to this issue. Two UN undersecretaries, fans of the show, reached out to J.J.Abrams’s production company’s philanthropic arm, Good Robot, Bad Robot, because issue seemed like a perfect fit for the show’s post-apocalyptic theme. “When J.J. and I were cooking up Revolution, we really talked a lot about how we are this technology-dependent society and if you remove that infrastructure, much of a society would collapse as a result of something so simple and basic — and Revolution is basically about that at its core,” Kripke said.

The show’s writers will sit own with UN workers with experience in places like Syria, Sudan, Afghanistan and the Republic of Congo, countries with large populations who have little or no access to electricity. “These are people who were negotiating directly with warlords for the release of child soldiers and trying to create infrastructure in places that don’t have any power,” Kripke said, ” and can give you boots on the ground perspective on what life was like.”

Revolution’s stunt coordinator Jeff Wolfe won an Emmy over the weekend for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Other nominees in Wolfe’s category included stunt coordinators for the shows NCIS, Blue Bloods and Southland. Revolution had also been nominated for a visual effects award for its pilot episode.
