Review

My Hero Academia has been a non-stop ride since the manga and anime were first released. Unlike many other long running anime, there has been very little in the way of filler episodes. And while this is a blessing for those who hate being dragged along for endless fillers (*cough* Naruto *cough*), it means we don’t get see some of the everyday antics that you would expect for a school plot setting. Well, thats where School Briefs come into play.

These short novels are great additions to the story and character building already done within the manga and anime. School Briefs Vol 1 is all about Parent’s day at UA High School. Yet most of the novel is spent on the events leading up to Parents Day.

The first part of the story focuses on Ida, Izuku and Shoto and who they plan on having attend Parents Day, which is fitting considering the very different yet complex family lives they each have compared to the other students.

We learn more about how the teachers interact with each other on a daily basis as well. There is something special about seeing such mundane tasks having to be completed by teachers in a world that is so super human. Still I was never bored, and getting the occasional drawing throughout the book helped frame important scenes.

We also get to read about a day in the lives of Momo, Tsuyu and Ochaco as they hit the supermarket. Some of the students also spend the day at the theme park, all before we finally get to Parents Day. But as expected, Parents Day at UA High School is not like any parents day you have dealt with before.

If you are a fan of the world of My Hero Academia, School Briefs is a must read addition between seasons. School Briefs Volume 1 was just released in April and comes with a two-sided color mini post in the front featuring the shopping trip with the girls and our male student trio of Ida, Izuku and Shoto. Vol 2 is going to be released July 2nd and centers around the training camp and letting the students cut loose. You can pickup a copy of volume 1 over at Amazon.com!
