New Dune Trailer Released – Arrakis is Closer!

A new trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming release of Dune on October 22 came out just minutes ago! All of our favorites – and all of the villains – look simply amazing.

While I still have some concerns about Timothee Chalamet as the story’s main figure, Paul Atreides, I suspect that the actual film will get rid of these completely. But I’m completely ready for Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, and while I’m not the biggest Jason Momoa fan, it looks like he’ll be a great Duncan Idaho!

The visuals of Arrakis are amazing from the trailer. The sandworms look just as huge and terrifying as I imagine from the books (and yes, I’ve read them all, including the weird and nearly incomprehensible Chapterhouse Dune). This was one area that I felt that the earlier Kyle McLachlan version fell flat, in the depiction of this vital planet.

I’m excited to see in what other ways the two films compare – can anyone top Sting as Feyd Rautha? If you want to compare, IMdB came out this morning with a side-by-side (top to bottom?) comparison of the two films, with scenes not in the trailer:

In other Dune news, the actual title has now been released – and it’s very intriguing – Dune: Part One ! Co–writer Denis Roth said to Collider magazine, “It’s completely the first half. I didn’t know when we started, so I think I adapted a little more than the first half and started going into the second half of the book. But I’ve seen the film, it’s pretty much the first half….It needed to be, honestly, cut down and sort of harnessed, and Denis did some of that, and they eventually brought in a writer — I was busy, so they brought in a writer named Jon Spaihts, who is a wonderful writer, who I think kept it grounded.” Here’s the complete interview from Collider.

What are you most excited for in this film? We want to hear from you!
