In Tokyo Ghoul Vol 5, Kaneki, Nishio and Touka struggle to work together to rescue their human friend Kimi while Ghoul Investigator deaths skyrocket in wards 9 through 12. It all leads to an increase in CCG agents and an increased risk for Ghouls. As reinforcements are called in on both sides, the stakes are suddenly higher than ever.
My least favorite and creepiest character gets plenty of time to court his favorite meal Kaneki in this newest volume in the Tokyo Ghoul series. Shuu Tsukiyama would normally be considered a controversial character but in an already dark series like Tokyo Ghoul, is anything really off limits?
Juuzou Suzuya makes his debut in chapter 47 after running into Kaneki and stealing his wallet. We later see the very twisted nature of Juuzou who is later detained and questioned. However, it turns out he is a member of CCG. Nishio also gets a short background chapter that gives us some history for his character. Another bonus of this Vol is a short side story of Rize, the character who started Kaneki down the path of becoming a half Ghoul.
There were a lot of new characters to keep track of but the intensity of the scenes with Kaneki, Nishio and Touka trying to save Kimi stole the show in this volume. This was also the point in which Kaneki finds his purpose and courage for the first time as a half-ghoul when he allows Touka to feed on him in order to get the strength to beat Tsukiyama and save Kimi.
