Colin Cunningham, formerly of Falling Skies, and one of my personal favorite actors, was just announced as joining a new 13-episode drama series on Syfy, called Blood Drive. Cunningham will join series stars Alan Ritchson (Smallville) and Christina Ochoa in the straight-to-series (no pilot) drama, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Blood Drive is set in the near future, in apocalyptic LA (like we can always tell the difference these days). Ritchson plays Arthur, the last good cop in LA, and Ochoa is his dangerous femme fatale partner, who has an agenda of her own. Cunningham will play Slink, “the nastiest creature you’ll ever dread to meet, created from an ether of pure corruption and sin. Ever the showman, Slink soaks up the spotlight as the mastermind of Blood Drive, an underground death race in which the cars run on human blood,” according to Deadline.
Earlier this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “”This highly stylized roller coaster ride is a throwback to 1970s grindhouse cinema. With its fast-paced thrills and indie feel, Blood Drive will make an exciting and edgy addition to Syfy’s growing slate of original scripted series,” said Syfy president Dave Howe.Â
The series was created by James Roland with  executive producers John Hlavin, Fredrik Malmberg and David Straiton, who will also direct. Production begins in August. No air date has been set.
I had the privilege of interviewing Colin last year at SDCC. You can see that interview here.
