Shokugeki No Soma: Food Wars! Vol 13 Review

Manga Reviews Food Wars, Viz Media

51dXBXeDOFLSoma Yukihira’s old man runs a small family restaurant in the less savory end of town. Aiming to one day surpass his father’s culinary prowess, Soma hones his skills day in and day out until one day, out of the blue, his father decides to enroll Soma in a classy culinary school! Can Soma really cut it in a place that prides itself on a 10 percent graduation rate? And can he convince the beautiful, domineering heiress of the school that he belongs there at all?!

Three students survive the harsh trials of the preliminaries, winning their way into the finals. Which student will be the one to take home the crown as the winner of the Fall Classic?! Later, the furor of the Fall Classic has barely died down when Soma and the others are sent off to new battlefields! What is this new challenge that will test their desire to be chefs?

Soma’s finishing touch on the pike dish leaves the judges and audience floored. It has been a long time since a chef with so much creativity has been in the Fall Classic. The start of the newest volume starts out talking about Soma’s fathers history with the school but I wonder when Erina is going to finally figure it out. When will she learn that her idol is in fact Soma’s father.

The judges decide that all 3 dishes are outstanding. However, they will pick the winner based on the dish which stands out as a ‘specialty’. Meaning that the person eating the dish can envision the cooks face in the first bite. Just whose dish manages to meet that mark? Is it Soma, Kurokiba or Hayama?

After the results of the Fall Classic settle in everyone gets only a short break before the next challenge begins. All of the students are split up into groups of 2 for Stagiaire. It just so happens that Erina is paired with Megumi. Soma was paired with Hisako. Of course why shouldn’t we have seen these 2 groups coming from a mile away, right?

While things appear to be starting out rough for both groups, things quickly change as both sides realize just how good their partners really are. Soma and Hisako are sent to a greasy spoon joint much like what he is used to dealing with. While Megumi and Erina are sent to a high end french restaurant which Megumi is not used to dealing with. How will each side fair? You will have to read up to find out.
