Tokyo Ghoul Viz Media

Tokyo Ghoul: Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way—except for their craving for human flesh.

Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid. Trapped between two worlds, he must survive Ghoul turf wars, learn more about Ghoul society and master his new powers.

The 4th Ward falls under attack by Assistant Special Investigator Arima of the Commission of Counter Ghoul. Amon finds a connection between the CCG and an underground lab seemingly designed to research turning humans into Ghouls. And an old partnership reforms that could spell trouble for the 20th Ward.

Uta continues to give Kaneki more backstory on Yomo and explains how he and Mr. Yoshimura came to know each other. Meanwhile an elite team of CCG agents from Yomo’s past are revealed in during Uta’s back story discussion with Kaneki. Lead by Arima Kisho, Yomo almost didn’t make it out alive.

Meanwhile Sen Takatsuki decides to drop in on the CCG and Mr. Amon with some vital information. She reveals details about shipments of liquified ghouls being shipped in and sold to the CCG. It turns out the lab and the company are owned by the CCG. At first Amon cannot believe what he is hearing but as he puts the pieces together he thinks he has learned a frightening truth about the CCG.

Kaneki confronts Yomo and tries to talk with Rize who has reverted to nothing more than a monster in her starved state. Yomo seeing Kaneki in a desperate state reveals to him that he has been watching him from afar. All this time Kaneki thought he was using Rize’s power to survive was untrue, he was using his own. He encouraged Kaneki to go back and speak to Mr. Yoshimura about the truth of Aogiri Tree.

Touka runs into Hide on the school campus as she is getting ready to apply. He was taking down posters of Kaneki. He opens up about Kaneki and what he was like as a person and a friend. Hide also reveals his tragic childhood and a little quirk he has when he is hiding the truth. Hide knows a lot more then Touka realizes.

After heading back to Anteiku, Kaneki confronts Mr. Yoshimura about the owl and who that person is to him. He asks Kaneki to come back to Anteiku and Kaneki agrees to think about it. Touka returns and finds out that Kaneki and runs after him. He declares that he probably won’t come back because he has to protect everyone. She punches him in the face not taking any of that from him and tells him to never return.

Kaneki makes the decision that he is going to return and work behind the scenes like Yomo is doing.

The CCG is now calling Kaneki the “centipede” after the fight in the lab and has their sights set on him. However, the owl takes priority when the CCG team comes to a conclusion of where they think he is hiding….a small cafe in the 20th ward….Anteiku.

We now approach the final battle as we saw in the anime, though how we got here was very different. I will be very interested to see how the final battle is done versus the anime. I have avoided reading ahead so as not to spoil things. If you have not picked up your copy yet, you should. Volume 12 will give you a great amount of background for Tokyo Ghoul characters going into the final battle. You can get your copy of Tokyo Ghoul on Amazon.com today.
