EVERYONE FREEZE! A New Dead Boy Detectives Trailer Just Dropped

You guys, I cannot begin to talk about how excited I am for the Dead Boy Detectives. Just kidding, yes I can. So, we start the trailer with a haunting rendition of “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance. It’s beautiful and it’s perfect and we’re going to get into why it’s perfect in a bit.

The Dead Boy Detectives You Know and Love

If you’re a fan of the Dead Boy Detectives, which I hope you are, then this series is going to be for you. If you’re not a fan of the Dead Boy Detectives or have never heard of them before, then this series is going to be for you! The series is based on two characters that appeared in The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. They spend a good amount of their time running from Death, who makes an appearance in the trailer. But they also use their time solving murders. The story is fun and endearing, and the characters saw a few of their own spin-off series, including my personal favorite one by Jill Thompson.

Anyway…The Dead Boy Detectives is comprised of Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine. These two young boys meet untimely demises on separate occasions. Neither of their deaths were noticed and they’re actually pretty tragic, but that’s spoiler territory I won’t get into.

The actors in this trailer do look a little older than I imagined they would be, considering how old they were in the comics. Regardless, there is still a lot here that makes me excited for the series. With how beautiful the adaptations we’ve gotten for The Sandman, The Umbrella Academy, and Sweet Tooth I’m pretty damn happy Netflix took the reigns. Considering these two have made appearances on Max before it could have gone a few ways. Neil Gaiman also directly helped develop this story, so that’s a huge win!

The Chemical Connection

Here’s a fun tidbit for you. It’s so special that “Welcome to the Black Parade” is in this preview because of how much Neil Gaiman influenced Gerard Way. Gerard said many times how much The Sandman helped shape him as an artist, so the fact his song is in the trailer for the Dead Boy Detectives is amazing. There’s your “always-expected fun My Chemical Romance fact” of the article!

Overall, this is going to be a really enjoyable series. Expect a “Go Or No Go Review” here the weekend of April 25th and feel free to let us know in the comments whether or not you’ll be tuning in!
