Who are you, if you’re not who you think you are?
Legends, TNT’s newest action/adventure offering, begins tomorrow evening. Legends stars Sean Bean, he of the perpetually killed-off character, as Martin Odum, the FBI’s most naturally gifted, or possibly most psychopathic, deep-cover operative.
The first episode introduces our cast of players: Martin, ex-husband and father of a young teen; Crystal McGuire (Ali Larter), his handler and one-time lover; Nelson Gates (Steve Harris), director of the DCO – Deep Cover Operations – Task Force; Maggie Harris (Tina Majorino), newest member of the team; Sonya Odum (Amber Valletta), Martin’s ex-wife; and Tony Rice (Morris Chestnut), a smart, quick-witted DCO agent who is suspicious of Martin. The episode starts off with Martin six months into deep cover infiltrating a home-grown terrorist group. When the group’s headquarters is invaded by the ATF, Martin tries to salvage his cover and that of his CI (confidential informant).
We’ve seen this plot before – entertaining as it is, to this point, it’s not new. But the twist – a man has been following Martin, and finally, after Martin catches him, tells him that he’s not really Martin Odum. “Do you know who you are?” he asks. “Who are you?” Martin asks the hooded man. “I don’t know!” he replies. Who is Martin? Who is the hooded man?
From the TNT description: Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job. But he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t the man he believes himself to be. As Martin tries to find answers to the questions about his identity, he must also continue his primary job as an undercover operative, taking on such roles as a Serbian extremist, a Scottish soccer club executive, a corrupt Chicago police officer, British special forces colonel, and a legendary computer hacker. There are many times, however, when he must choose between the demands of his job and his desperate desire to solve the mystery of his own identity. And he doesn’t always make the right choice.
Legends premieres Wednesday, August 13 on TNT at 9/8c.
