This week’s episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, entitled “Night,” is not only the season finale, it’s the season’s finest. In what’s been a truly excellent adaptation of an important book, this episode will leave you throwing things at your TV and sobbing on the floor.

First, the official synopsis: Serena Joy confronts Offred and the Commander. Offred struggles with a complicated, life-changing revelation. The Handmaids face a brutal decision.

While I’m dying to discuss this episode with all of you, that will have to wait, because you’ll be throwing things at me if I reveal too much about the episode in advance. The women are stronger, and in many cases scarier, than they’ve been. There’s cover your ass, up yours and FU to spare in this hour. That package June got from the butcher? Uh huh. You really aren’t prepared.

And whether you believe this is a scary look at an all-too possible future, or merely an excellent story with great characters and fascinating twists, this episode will be what you’re looking for in a season finale!
